Past Government report revealed that around 2.5 million Amharas were missing after a previous census. There has been a controversy regarding what happened to all these people over the years. Several studies have been conducted through analysis of the census carried out over the last 27 years with some estimating the number of missing Amharas as high as 6 million since the 1984 census.
What exactly happened to all these people remains a mystery but government officials and several scholars have offered their views.
