Hi all,
A friend of mine is doing some preliminary research into the role of social media in political discourse and they'd really appreciate it if anyone with a spare couple of minutes could fill out the attached survey. The findings will be submitted to Interpeace as part of their Principles for Peace. The Principles for Peace aim to use grassroots-led research to establish new international standards for how communities internationally create positive peace. The scope of this particular survey pertains to the role of social media in facilitating this.

The research aims to consider the role of social media in political discourse through three lenses - (de)polarisation, activism, and news. Your political views on a few key issues will also be required to frame our research.
Preliminary research has indicated that social media sites (including Reddit) offer both positive and negative contributions to positive political discourse. Echo chambers can polarise, while exposure to different views can depolarise. Social media can create movements that create radical change (ie. Arab Spring), but can equally lead to slacktivism ("the practice of supporting a political or social cause by means such as social media or online petitions, characterized as involving very little effort or commitment."). Social media can destroy media monopolies and foster independent news publishers but can also allow the propagation of fake news.
If you're interested, there will also be follow-up focus groups conducted (please leave your details at the end of the survey).
Thank you :)
*Also couldn't see anything in the subreddit rules about surveys but please let me know if I need approval or anything*
