The video above titled "the genie of violence" show cases a piece , a theory? Which it labels, "top secret information" written for a magazine offering a feeble explanation to some of my own recent musings about the violence and what took place this year. It sums up the violence that occured in to 5 issues most of which are completely tied to TPLF. That's all great because I'm already on the 'torch TPLF' bandwagon wondering why it hasn't been torched yet. And this is exactly were the explanation falls a little short.
What does Aladin do with Jaffar? I don't really remember. What do you do with a terrible genie that causes only misery? Shove it back in the bottle some how, seal the bottle, and remove it from access completely by throwing/imprisoning it to the pit of the abyss or you can send the big bad genie on an all paid retirement vacation to its shitty home town, from where it launches some of its assaults right?
The peice starts off with musing why recent governments in Ethiopia go sour soon after their little dawn in the lime light and honeymoon type of phase. It starts off with a criticism of the last days of the monarchy (a favourite thing to do for Ethiopia's version of the "politically correct". It seems we have our own versions and coppies for everything these days.) It touches upon how though the King's initial days were pure bliss his length of stay was unappreciated. This is undeniable, it happened, but was it founded? As a monarchial system, the system itself dictates the king's term. And since when in Ethiopia did kings have to abdicate in favour of their heir? Yes there was a fair and legitimate humble question and rebellion of the "land to the tiller" to which the King failed to give proper response and to which he famousely replied in a sad defeated manner "they don't understand" in a documentary of his days at Peak of the demonstrations. That humble request of the people was replaced with something else later. How HIM was raised and came to power, his reign, his "allies" , mistakes and scandals, and final fate is the subject of another discussion. This much I'll say in his defence before moving on to catch up to narriative of the paper which fleets on to the Derg and TPLF junta miseries to which the complaints of the monarchy pale in comparison, then it touches up on the festive first months of PM Abiy before things turn sour with the violence of the year. Caligula, the Roman leader, was likewise welcomed with great festivities . He was the little darling of Rome which earned him his nickname in childhood and the people likewise rejoiced when he took up his seat which all later on turned into misery. I am by no means making a comparison. I don't dislike the PM. I even admired him once. I still love every thing he says, it's all honey to the ears, the problem is the disappointment of watching these words not manifest themselves in to reality and sometimes the shock of seeing the opposite. It is about time the government is held accountable and made transparent on every step possible, Ethiopia needs this. And the only way for this to happen is for the people to critically examine what they are told and voice their complaints when things even in the smallest sense are going out of line. Like I admire how the Doctors recently handled their complaints. I know little of it but it was refreshing to see them not giggle like a fool at every word like other lackeys do, though still remain respectfully persistent.
What happened this year was by no means small. Even a single innocent life is priceless, but in fact many were lost and millions were displaced. This points to a major issue somewhere and this brings me back to the paper. The paper attributes the cause of the violence this year to several set of issues but the main one being TPLF and some of the others mostly being connected to it, like human trafficking. Basically that assylum seekers who ditch the country are caught and trained to cause trouble through bribes. Other issues it briefly hints are the cozying up of the new replacements, mentioning some incidents that incited public outcry at the government like the condominium issues. Others include the current geo-political climate which in the first place annoys me to see my country, my people and especially the very lives of my kind and someday even mine being used as tools to meet such ends. So why am I not satisfied with this explanation? Because it puts too much emphasis on TPLF as usual with nothing done about it. If a problem is identified solutions must be found to remove the problem, especially, a problem that is costing the peace and safety of completely innocent people who do nothing but struggle with life itself. So the big question still remains, "why is TPLF still around?". Some will retort it is to avoid conflict but then I'll ask "why were they allowed to hide out in the first place???" They went there freely without facing any trouble, some of them are on retirement and one who is on the international wanted list and wanted for heavy crimes is given a position within the party. Other party members have shown up at parliaments even making a scene and forgetting what they were. Other affiliates are let go on bail of around 3000$ despite being pointed out even by international observers. So if there is a terrorist genocidal organization terrorising the country causing deaths of so many and displacements of millions why is it not removed???? How many more must die for this to happen? Are those who sit by and watch reluctant to stop it, especially those with the authority to carry out justice not likewise liable???
Almost a year a go some mysterious "Americans" commented on r/Ethiopia sub Reddit with their vision for the new Ethiopian political future being a completely decentralized weak federal government, one even argued with me on it being normal to keep extremist genocidal organisations on the fringes of the society. I wonder what he would say now after the unnecessary deaths of thousands and displacements of millions. I wonder what he would say if some group's terrorist genocidal organization at the government keeps aside caused the same scale of damage to his kind in America (if he really was American).
A complete decentralisation and weakness of the federal government would ofcourse serve foreign interests as they deal with each sized up group separately and set each against each other in some distant future when ever necessary. Keeping the organisation that is responsible for this on the fringe would also benefit them in many respects I won't mention now. This in addition to the fact that I read many similar ideas on Geo-political articles is what piques my suspescions and makes me wonder whose side the government is on and who it serves as I see many of these ideas of outsiders being realised. Some thing unthinkable before the 20th century.
Let me get something clear here because there are few who wont stop doing certain things. I get nothing out of these rants, not even enjoyment. It only irritates me. This is not some lame popularity contest that some have turned it into. I don't want attention (whether positive or negative), I don't even like it. The way I live my life is evidence to this. If I was after popularity and attention I would court it through the right means and not seems like a parody of some activists. I am not an activist, my inexperience in these things confirms that as does my careless writing. I rarely even paid attention to the country's politics till Abiy gave me hope. I knew nothing of the activists before the year and had little to no info on even the protests till the begining of last summer. I am not interested in pleasing any one and don't care much about offending those who deserve it either. My loyalty is with the country whose ancestral legacy dictates that it remains truly independent and the innocent lives that should never be used for any such shady means. Should I wait till it happens to me? Must I stay quiet when Amharas are being attacked by a moronic crazy genocidal terrorist organisation and other similar insecure freaks? Do you think these Amharas have no relatives or distant relatives? Or did you assume the implicit tribal identity pride and non-expression meant we lacked a tribal bond and affection? Or or do you assume that if I'm safe and kept busied I will ignore the vileness of what is occurring? May be few will do that and might not care so long as they fill their belly (but these are only the rare slimes of my kind who dance to different rhythms with every coming change for benefit) but I won't over look it and many won't over look it either.
I still don't know the objective of what is going on but all I will say is that who ever is responsible will not move Amharas an inch from standing for their whole country or an inch in the other direction of denying their true historical separate but inclusive identity that has always been a source of implicit pride. Because I feel Amharas being pulled in to these two opposite directions which to us have always been some what complimentary and will always be so.

Hi! My dad is retired 74 yo and I am 30/F. Last summer we did an excellent safari package through Costco - Capetown, South Africa, Victoria Falls River Lodge, Botswana. Our favorite was Savannah Private Game Reserve, the location was fantastic and the guides were amazing, knew a lot of the wild animals there for over 5 years personally and it was magical...got really close to lions, cheetah, leopards, etc. Never did see wild dogs though which would be nice. :)
My dad wants to do another, he stumbled upon his Iowa State Alumni Safari Package which includes Kenya, Tanzania - Nairobi, Amboseli Serena Lodge, LAke Manyara Serena Lodge, Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, Serengeti River Lodge, Masai Mara Sarova Mara Game Camp.
I'm wondering if any of you could suggest any better Safari Packages that we might choose instead of this? My concern with this one is so much movement, never really drinking in a place (every place is like one or two nights), but maybe it's fine. We also want to see pristine nature, and wildlife we might not have seen in South Africa. Personally I want the most magical wildlife experiences possible. But, if this looks good, let us know too! :) Or, if there are any safari-esque wildlife trips we could take elsewhere in the world, all-inclusive, let me know! He wants to get the best bang for his time here on Earth. ;D
My dad also has enough money and is older and wants everything comfortable and planned out so we don't have to think much. Thanks!
