Living in Brisbane you get used to the standard of 'journalism' here but the Courier Mail's response today was truly a new low. There can be no doubt that Australia's media landscape is predominantly right-wing, the continued existence of the Liberal party and the coalition depends on the now bloody-handed rhetoric of fear and Murdoch obliges.
To imply that such a serious offense against humanity can be linked to video games is the most ignorant disingenuous despicable pathetic deceitful dishonest false unfair crooked duplicitous insidious mendacious shifty sly two-faced underhanded rhetorical leap I have read in the Courier Mail - and that tops a long list.
It is a paper that seemingly has no limits to the depths it will sink to when pushing its right-wing agenda. Because that's what this article does. Even tangentially blaming a psycho's addiction on violent games for his terrorist act is deflecting the blame from where it should be: his extreme right-wing ideology.
Like many people on Reddit I would consider myself a gamer. I played Doom when it first came out in 1992. I shot thousands of demons in the face with a shotgun and then chainsawed their remains (they all deserved it). In GTA I killed hookers and did burnouts in their blood. In Soldier Of Fortune I literally shot the faces off terrorists and decapitated them with an M16 (ah, good times).
The virtual depravity I engaged in over the years goes on and on, and how many people have I killed in real life? Absolutely fucking zero. How many am I planning to kill? Absolutely fucking zero. Because I don't believe people are 'things'. I don't believe some races are inherently superior to others. In short I don't believe any of the bullshit that the alt-right shovels, the same shit our most infamous export ate with a fucking spoon. Our hobbies don't make us killers, what we believe does.
Finally, fuck you Courier Mail. Obviously not everyone there is a right wing nut job, but if good people there do nothing then shit like the Courier Mail will flourish in Australia. Deflecting the truth is a bad habit. How are we supposed to progress as a country if the truth is never given air time in the media? Seriously.
PS: Because I know some one is going to mention this: if your hobby is killing then your hobby would literally make you a killer. Obviously. A perfectly legit argument in a Dexter scenario, but not real life.
