I'm curious to know more about the state of my country. I've heard about the mass exodus and ethnic cleansing, and talks about Russia and China but I'm fairly ignorant to much of what is going on.
I was born there in '89 but moved to the US when I was 7 and have not been in contact with anyone from my country since (My parents divorced, and my father's side of the family are extremely toxic people so we cut ties with all of them except a few who currently live either in France or in the US)
The only news I get about CAR is from international news websites, and it's always political. And rather than hearing from the media, I'd like to talk to people, and hear stuff from real people living there.
Are there any Redditors who either lived - or are currently living there?

Tell me why didnt you decorate your supposed shanty house at Shire in the manner which you did the PM office or what nice turns you plan to do with the palace you didnt build? You didnt have the means back then yah? But now taxes pay for it, yah? Neither do the people whom your adminstration have made homeless. How are you any different from Tplf (both in terms of backgrounds and actions) whom your people complained about for the same reason? At least, they were compensated.
A facade is just a facade. The first thing a social climber does is build a facade of wealth. True basic improvement and development that starts from the foundation doesnt come from pathetic pretty decorations and grand words.
The greatest intellectuals of the world were modest in their ways of living and usually careless about themselves and their surroundings and yet they took the world forward.
The japanese didnt decorate their offices first. They sat on wooden chairs in their office and decorated their minds and creations first. The same with the greek philosophers, who still stand as the pillars of western civilization. The same with the intellectuals of the enlightenment era. If this wasnt so duchess d'Orleans wouldnt have confirmed Leibniz as the rare exception.
Our own kings were likewise modest and practical.
The only improvement worthy of appreciation is the kind that starts from the foundation and doesnt involve unecessary things. The previous adminstration rented rooms and built a few tacky hotels then called it "development" and their benefactors whose interests were served clapped along from abroad while laughing at them behind the veil. They overtook old industries they couldnt run operating on loss and corruption, even the ones they worked on with the equally unqualified foreigners they imported. They feared the true experienced local intellectuals who are even respected by qualified foreigners they worked, studied, or associated with for their abilities and mind.
I once remember going to Ethio Telecom center to get a problem fixed and they told me they were unable to fix it and were waiting till the chinese came. This is the type of generation Tplf created. The Orwellian generation. This was not so with the last days of the monarchy. Why because the education system surpassed the former's.
Had i known your first duty as a PM was to prettify your office, my opinion of you would have been negatively bent and fixed from that very moment, it wouldnt have taken me the time it did to look beyond the facade.
To tell me about the "democratic" change you brought first define democracy. If you assume democracy is about letting me talk, you are greatly mistaken. Even back then when i cared little about politics and knew very little about what truly went on, i have openly called Tplf stupid when they shut off internet.
