I watched the first episode of New Gold Mountain... Clunky and amateurish with scriptwriting that would get an A- if it were year 10 English assignment. It wasn't the worst but watching Alyssa Sutherland walk through the set was jarring because it was so obvious that she's got real world acting experience. She uses her face and body to act while everyone else in the show is just a wooden prop reciting the lines given to them. The themes of race and gender we're delivered like I had ordered a bistro parmy and sat there with one of those obnoxious flashing buzzers, waiting too long to collect the most predictable thing on the menu.The horrendous attempts by some characters to pull off a Californian or Irish accent made me want to curl up and have the 'I want to die' feeling when you have bad gastro... When are we going to move on from the castle being our only exportable screen product? It seems all out talent disappears overseas so fast and there is no will to make an authentic production here... I want Australian content that feels like it's Australian not like a friend of a friend's community stage production that you feel obligated to attend. /End rant Total Control and Secret City are good but come on Australia pick up your game. I've recently watch Dark - Germany, Squid Game - Korea and it's possible to have A grade shows out there without turning to the US.
