thesis ideas/inspiration for an international security masters? areas of interest are middle east and its insurgent groups and Western nations foreign policy in the region.

I did my undergrad diss on Obama's drone policy in Yemen and its effects on Al Qaeda in the Arabian Penisula's (AQAP) tactics. I'd like to do something related to ISIS/AQ again, preferably as contemporary as possible. I've got a few ideas but i'm having difficulty making them focused and specific. If anyone has any ideas of any research questions i'd really appreciate it!

Hand of Fatima as jewelry in the West?

Hey everyone, Please delete or tell me which sub to post on if inappropriate (:

I recently bought some bulk earrings. There was a hand of Fatima among it. I researched the meaning and it seems to be quite universal and wide spread among the cultures in the middle East.

Is it inappropriate to wear it as jewelry, especially as a westerner? (I do have some affiliations to Asia already and will start to learn farsi in a while too for my degree.. so it's not like I can't justify using a symbol from the region.)
