I just drove past a Jetts sign that read “You might be ready for summer, but is your body?”
I’m a regular gym goer myself but it got me thinking
Many of the females in my friend group have lost weight to the point where they actually look gaunt and a bit unhealthy.
Most of my mates think they’re scarecrows and daydream about getting on steroids despite being in good shape.
Ironically, in some ways it seems that the more fitness and gym oriented one gets the lower their self esteem seems to fall because they’re constantly comparing themselves. The benefits in self discipline seem to be overshadowed by a feeling of inadequacy.
The most seemingly content people I’ve met were probably those in southern/Eastern Europe where half the women had beer bellies and most the men looked like they had never been near a gym.
I just can’t help but feel like the gym obsession is almost doing more harm than good to our self esteems.
What do you guys think?
