Hi all, I am an unemployed 25 year old living in Tasmania going through a quarter-life existential crisis. I have spent the past 7 working various jobs while travelling. Although I don't regret the life experience I gained throughout this time I do feel that I missed the golden opportunity to establish a career in my early 20's. I am getting rather desperate to secure a career that provides a decent work/life balance with upward mobility and growth.
I was recently working as a trades assistant with an electrical contractor however I was let go due to lack of work. It was my intention to get an electrical apprenticeship through work experience as I had completed a Cert II preapprenticeship course and was applying to jobs for several months before I got offered my last gig. The future scope for a mature aged apprentice in the current economic climate and poor job prospects for the trades sector has me rethinking my career path. I am considering going to uni to do a degree or relocating to Melbourne to look for electrical apprenticeships. I am very interested in biomedical science and health science but am unsure as to whether pursuing a degree in this field will provide me a secure job.
I am well aware that 100% job security doesn't exist in this day and age however If you were to start fresh and choose a somewhat future-proof trade/degree, or recommend a career path to someone in my situation, what would you suggest?
