In the past 3 years I have seen many articles saying that Swedes rarely ever use physical cash and that they are the first country that will become cashless society. 80% of all payments are done by debit cards or mobile application called swish. I don’t live there but apparently many businesses don’t accept physical cash from customers any more. I don’t know if this is the direction people genuinely want Sweden to go in or if this is being pushed by the banks and government.
Having electronic payment as an option is good but you should NEVER get rid off your physical cash completely. Do you even realize how dangerous this is?
And before someone says but.. but.. but.. people who want to use cash are usually criminals who don’t want to pay taxes and sell illegal drugs. Well guess what, crime will exist regardless whether you have cashless society or not. People who want to do illegal/bad things will always find a way to game the system. So claiming that removal of physical money will eliminate most of crime is nothing but naive fantasy. By the way the largest money laundering and tax evasion is actually done by the top companies, accounting firms and banks. Does anyone remember HSBC helping mexican drug cartels smuggle $800 000 000 ? https://www.theguardian.com/business/2012/jul/17/hsbc-executive-resigns-senate
Once the physical cash and any gold is eliminated the banks are in full control. Your every purchase will be tracked and recorded to build up a profile of who you are, what you do and possibly even what will your future actions be. Then the banks will start imposing negative interest rates to force you to spend money on shit you don’t want or need. This will be done to “boost the economy”. And it won’t stop here.
Let’s say there is government election going on and you vote for the “wrong party”. Bankers will slap you with 10% penalty fine. What are you gonna do? Criticise them on twatter and other social media? Protest outside of their building? You will shout “I will sue this globalist swine into oblivion” only to find out few days later that you will not sue them because the bankers have froze your account. Now you can’t pay for the lawyer or the court fees, in fact you will not be able to pay for anything. Rent, public transport, or food. (If only cash was still around you could buy some bread or rice to stop the hunger.) You will not be able to even beg for money like the homeless people do because there is no cash and your account is still frozen and it will stay frozen until you fall back in line.
Perhaps sometime in the future Sweden will go to war with some other nation. I am not saying that you will but you never know. The reason does not matter. As the war goes on Sweden is struggling to fight off the enemy. You are in need of more fuel and weapons. So you turn to your neighbours and ask them if them can sell you more diesel, tanks and jet-fighters or whatever it is that you need. Suddenly an enemy B-2 Spirit flies over and bombs your central banking system out of existence. Just like that all of Sweden’s digital money goes poof! (If only you had some cash or gold you could buy the resources.) When this happens you could say Sweden has effectively lost the war. Physical money do not have such central point of failure.

Does cashless society still sound like a good idea to the people of Sweden?
