I have two degrees, the first of which cost approximately $24,000, and the second of which cost approximately $51,000. Now, I'm no mathematician, but to my mind, that indicates that my total HECS debt should be somewhere in the order of $75,000. However, I logged onto the ATO website yesterday, and found that the amount owing is sitting around $91,000. I know there's interest added, but it should by no means be enough to constitute such a drastic increase. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how it could have reached such a ridiculous amount?
