Rising Sun

Okay, pardon my ignorance here. I’m under the impression “The Rising Sun” is historically a reference to Japan, the flag, the nation, etc. is this not the case?

I’m just really confused about the terminology, or is it a case that yes Japan is The Rising Sun, but when we talk about our defence forces under The Rising Sun we mean something different also?

Anyone got any specific research pieces they can point me at?

Australia Trip

A year or two, I decided I wanted to start planning a trip to Australia for my family. Koalas are my sons favorite animal and have been since he was a baby. I know in real life they’re not all “cute” and all that, but I’ve always wanted to take him so he could meet a real koala and actually remember it.

Before the pandemic and fires and al the insanity of this year, I’ll obviously have to push it back.

That being said, I have 3 questions:

When’s the cheapest time of the year to visit from the US?
Are there any places that I would still be able to go to to “meet” a koala and all that touristy stuff?
Are there hostels that are safe and fairly reasonably priced?

What do you locals recommend?
