Hi there,
My husband and I want to take a trip to Scotland and the best time for us to go would be at right before Christmas (we’ll be taking time off then anyway for the holiday).
I have always dreamt of seeing Scotland but am hesitant that the weather will take away from our experience.
My questions are-
- Is it worth the money traveling from the US to Scotland in rainy, cold December? By no means am I expecting a winter wonderland, but Is it really that “bad” during mid December? I can deal with a little dreary weather, but would hate if we spent the entire trip indoors due to sleet and freezing rain.
- For those pro Scotland in December, we’d love some advice on how to plan this trip so we get the most out of it. We are thinking of taking a connecting flight into London and doing one or two nights there (we did that for our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed it) then taking the train to Edinburgh. We’d like to make Edinburgh our base for the remainder of our 12 day vacation. I’m also thinking of a 2 day excursion out to Inverness by rental car, yay or nay?
I’m not always the best when it comes to planning travel. I have a tendency to overcommit/rush our days and underestimate time, distances and energy levels lol. I want to make sure we have enough time to see Scotland’s country side as well as what the city has to offer.
Would love any advice/insight anyone could provide. Ultimately would like to know what ones dream Scotland trip would like :) for those who think Scotland isn’t a good idea during December, I am definitely open to hearing other travel destinations examples (however we just recently came back from a 2018 trip to amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Rome so those cities are not on the top of our bucket list).
Thanks! Jen
