Hey folks,
I'm writing to ask if there is an equivalent of the United States Forest Service in Australia. I am a forestry technician for the Forest Service and my wife is from Karratha. At some point in our life it would be nice for my wife to be with her family again. I have been to Australia several times and I enjoy how remote many places are there. If I could find similar work I'd consider going there one day.
I love the kind of work I do for the Forest Service. I work in the forest and in designated wilderness taking care of trails and campsites and remote cabins. I am outside working in the woods and contacting the public for assistance in anything to do with recreation.
From some research the department of agriculture and forestry is geared towards timber production and sale. I'm not interested in the timber program. What agencies are closest to the Forest Service and what would I need to do to join one? I noticed everything is based on certifications and TAFE programs. Are those difficult and expensive to get? It looks like my current experience and qualifications wouldn't necessarily get me to where I want to go.
Thanks everybody.
