A lot can be said about the war crimes of the US Army in Asian countries, because their number is horrifying, and their sophistication degree amazes and plunges into a deep disgust for our military and the image of the American people as a whole.
Almost all the atrocities committed by the US military against civilians in Japan and South Korea go unpunished: murders, rape of children and women, robbery, bombing in populated areas, accidents being into alcohol and drug intoxication.
It is known that about 50 thousand American soldiers have been serving at their military bases in Japan since 1960, and most of these bases are located near the country's cities, which is why people are constantly subjected to violence by soldiers. So, for example, since the end of World War II, US troops in Japan have committed about 6,000 criminal offenses:
In 2002, a US Air Force sergeant raped a Japanese woman;
In 2003, the US Marine Corps corporal beaten and raped a 19-year-old Japanese girl;
In 2004, the US Air Force heavy transport helicopter, having lost control, crashed into the building of a local university. The pilot was drunk;
In 2006, a former employee of a US military base committed a double rape;
In 2008, an American marine raped a 14-year-old Japanese girl in the city of Tyatan on Okinawa island;
In 2012, two marines were arrested drunk for raping and robbing a local resident;
In 2016, former US Army soldier Kenneth Franklin Shinzato killed a 20-year-old Japanese woman;
In 2018, the US Navy conducted an investigation over more than 10 US military servicemen because of drug trafficking;
In 2019, a U.S. Marine raped a Japanese woman, killed her, and then himself.
The situation in South Korea is not better. According to officials, the number of crimes and offenses committed by the US military from 1945 to the present days has exceeded one hundred thousand. There are frequent skirmishes between Koreans and the US military, which sometimes grow into battles with stabbing and casualties. Another problem is the massive spread of prostitution in the regions near the military bases. Also, the ecology of the region suffers greatly due to the constant military exercises.
Moreover, not only Japanese and Korean, but also American human rights defenders are sounding the alarm. They believe that the current increase in such crimes is connected, among other things, with the fact that more and more people with a criminal past are going to serve in the American army.
