I don't know if this is the right place to post but I'll give it a shot.
As the title says, next year I'm planing on maybe taking a gap year from my studies and travel to Australia to work and have fun for 6-12 months. So I kinda need to start planning the trip a little bit. I know about visas and all that kinda stuff that needs to be done. What I don't know is where to live or what to do really.
I'm a pretty calm person so I don't want anything too hectic. I'd like to have relatively easy access to a beach because I love the ocean and would love to try surfing, because it appeals to me a lot. I'd also have to live kinda cheap considering I won't be getting any fancy jobs. I'm more of a city guy but big or small doesn't really matter all that much, as long as there is some activity at least.
Again, sorry if this is the wrong place. Thank for reading and have a nice day :)

You can buy a bag of frozen processed packaged 'Australian' chips/fries/nuggets cheaper than an actual unwashed as-nature-intended fucking spud. I demand a Royal Commission. Blah blah economies of scale.

Uhhh, wtf? More than a little weird that an official ABC YouTube channel is using clickbait titles that are so obviously biased and designed to draw clicks from his fans specifically, right?

Today I had to go into Centrelink, my wife passed away just over two weeks ago she was on a DSP and I was her carer on both the Carer Payment and Allowance and I needed to start untangling everything and over the course of the last two week we each had a payment come in.
I went in expecting to have a fight about waiting the two weeks before contacting them and about the payments but no I got to interact with a very polite and compassionate staff who was very understanding, and when I mentioned my plans about applying for the DSP myself gave me some advice about the best way to do so.
Reading r/australia you do tend to come away with a mental image of what it's like to deal with Centrelink but it would seem there's at least one person out there who is willing and is able to help.
I will say though it is a sad thing that I was surprised that there is a compassionate and helpful government employee out there.
