I haven't noticed this previously, however, today's Woolworths catalogue has a notice about the new QLD container refund scheme. Forgive me if it has been covered (maybe you can link me to the thread if it has).
In short, QLD will very soon introduce a 10c/can or bottle that is returned to a recycling center. For a 24 can case of coke, consumers will be able to return the empty cans for $2.40. South Australia has done something similar to this for a long time.
Woolworths will be increasing the cost of their 24 can case by $2.72 to account for "administrative costs" of introducing this program. All products that are sold in bottles or cans, that are eligible for the 10c refund, will incur this increase.
What are your thoughts on this?
Bottles won't be returned to Woolworths and, as far as I can tell, Woolworths doesn't have any involvement in the scheme other than selling the product. What is the justification behind this decision?
