Sunday North Korea warned the upcoming South Korea and US joint military exercises are “reckless behavior driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war.”
North Korea also claimed that NK’s army can target the US mainland anytime, and neither Guam nor Hawaii or any other part of the US mainland can “dodge the merciless strike.”
The official government newspaper Rodong Sinmun published the messages a day before the United States starts the military exercise named Ulchi Freedom Guardian with South Korea.
Tensions between the North Korea and US have once again grown in recent weeks.
Just one week ago, NK claimed it had finalized a detailed plan to fire four missiles striking the US territory of Guam. Official state media reported that Mr Kim Jong Un would be assessing the United State’s next move before issuing launch orders.
Last week official statement came as Kim would “watch a little more the foolish and stupid conduct of the Yankees”.
Despite these tensions US military officials and Trump administration have confirmed the 10-day military exercises would begin Monday as scheduled.
The annual exercise has antagonized Pyongyang, who perceived it as a practice to invade NK. Whereas the US and alley South Korea maintain the stance that these are purely defensive.
