Yesterday, President Obama granted 22 commutations to individuals serving time in federal prison. The President's action underscores his commitment to bring increased fairness and equality to our justice system.
Had these individuals been sentenced under current laws and policies, many of them would have already served their time. However, they were convicted under outdated sentencing and served more years than would be required under current law. In addition to granting commutation, the President also penned a letter to each individual to encourage them to make good choices moving forward.

The President issued an executive order today that will bolster our ability to combat cyber attacks. This action authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury -- in consultation with the Attorney General and the Secretary of State -- to impose sanctions on those responsible for or complicit in cyber-related threats to our national security, foreign policy, and economy.
President Obama has been working with Congress to secure the Trans-Pacific Partnership -- the most progressive trade agreement the world has ever seen. Trade policy may seem remote and technical, but it has a significant impact on the strength of our economy and the lives of millions of Americans. That's why we've created a new one-stop shop for everything relating to the President's trade deal.
The President, Vice President, and First Lady traveled to Boston on Monday to celebrate the opening of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. Calling Sen. Ted Kennedy a friend who he owed a lot to, President Obama delivered a speech that paid tribute to the Senator's accomplishments.
