On this day, 25th of July 1139, the Christian forces led by count Afonso Henriques defeated the Almovarid forces in the Battle of Ourique. The victory would result in the proclamation of Afonso Henriques as "Rex Portucalensis" and the birth of the Kingdom of Portugal.
