Protesters in Myanmar mocks junta leader on his birthday

Myanmar protesters have burned mock coffins and pictures of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing today in the latest demonstrations against the junta’s seizing power in February which led the Southeast Asian country into disorder.

Messages on funeral wreaths such as “May you not rest in peace” and “may your birthday and death day be the same,” were spotted in Theinzayet township in eastern Mon state. Protests like this also took place in many parts of the coup-hit country.

A protester located in the second city of Mandalay said that they are burning these images as a curse to the military leader while putting on fire a small pile of pictures of the general.

A spokesman for the military authorities did not respond to requests for comment.

Who has more melanin?

Do white people or east Asian people have more melanin? This question comes from a discussion on whether east asian and white people have the same skin color. We concluded that hey had slightly different pigmentation but couldn't figure out which was lighter which is why I'm asking here

A Rohingya-controlled armed force in Cox's Bazar known as "Haraka 'al-Yakin" is kidnapping Bangladeshis and transporting them to a nearby secluded hill. They are then severely tortured after being bound and blindfolded.‌ They demand ransom. If the victims' families do not pay on time, they are buried in the ground. In Cox's Bazar, they are known as the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). According to the Dhaka Post, Al-Yakin currently has about 2,000 members in Cox's Bazar and also have about 150 female members. They can be found in every Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar and Teknaf.

PH reminded ASEAN to not lose sight of terrorism and maritime security even amid the Covid-19 pandemic

The Philippines has called for the Southeast Asian countries as well as the dialogue partners in intensifying its efforts regarding the matter of transnational crime, terrorism, and maritime security despite the pandemic.

Foreign Affairs Acting Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro brought up the matter during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum (ARF) meeting of senior officials which was held on Tuesday.

In a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Lazaro said that it is critical to not lose sight in the cooperation on the matter. She added that the ARF provides the platform for such dialogue and exchanges among 27 participating countries.

Participants include ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners such as Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, and the United States.
