Hi, I am a teacher from the UK.

In my class this term, our Geography topic is all about the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. This is being linked to our English work where the children are going to write a postcard from a place in each continent.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to write and send a postcard for the children to see. They are incredibly interested in Asia and I’m hoping I can get them a postcard!

Due to the certain things we will be focussing on in our lessons, I would like the format to look something like this:

Dear Year 2 children, Greetings/hello from... The weather here is ... And any information relevant to the place where you are writing from. For example important landmarks/animals etc. And any fun facts if there are any. Please remember these facts need to be suitable for 6-7 year olds.

Is calling Asia the orient offensive?

Question

Coloradan here, I’ve heard the term used to describe Asia, is it an offensive/non-PC term or is it just another word for it like calling Canada the great white north? If I offend anyone I’m sorry.
