So, I'm not sure how or why, but Indian movies are flooding into my everyday life...
Aside from Netflix having a definite mad increase in the amount of Indian movies they host and even produce, I've started noticing their presence in unexpected places, the most recent of which is Hoyts Cinema.
I know every state has Hoyts, but I don't know if it's national or the influx is just local...
If memory serves, 2 years ago, when I lived in Melbourne, there weren't any, in Hoyts cinemas at least.
I opened up the Hoyts website to check out some movies (Pro tip; Thursday night gets me 2-for-1 tickets since I'm an AHM member, good shit) and noticed titles like "Panipat" and "Mardaani 2", which just seemed out of place, at least historically speaking. Don't get me wrong here, this isn't supposed to be a racist thing; I'm just genuinely curious what brought this change upon us. As far as I'm aware, the population cultural ratio hasn't changed, so why the sudden influx?
I'm guessing Netflix invested because the movies are cheap as fuck to make and with the recently launched new competition of streaming services, they probably want to fluff up their content volume...
But why cinemas?
