Hello everyone, I'm planning to visit Australia early january 2020 (I don't know if that's the best time to visit tho) alone, and I would be more than glad if you could help me planning my trip. Since I am travelling alone, it becomes awkward when I get a tourist guide, or join a tour. That's why for the last few years I have been travelling alone and planning my trips beforehand, but now, I kinda don't know what to do.
I have been to Europe (many different countries) during summers and all, and everything seemed easy while planning because the countries were small and most of the time had a "well known" museums or sightseeing places. Now, excuse my ignorance, but I don't want to just fly to Australia and miss out all the beauties in the country as it's really large country.
I don't like swimming, but I do enjoy the nice view of beaches when they are at the side of a forest, or a beach in an island. I also like nature, mountains and green in every tone. I am not planning to see buildings or night clubs, I am more into nature.
I would be glad if you could give me some names of the places that I might enjoy, and would be really happy if you could suggest some things to do while travelling alone. Also when I was in EU, I used to take trains all the time between cities, but, in Australia, I don't know how I will get around. Is it best to take busses? or should I rent a car (I have a driver license but our steering wheel is on the left side so I don't know if it'll be a good idea to rent)? On the internet I've seen people mentioning nice spots to see and say like "2 hours drive from Sydney" but if I won't be able to drive myself, how can I reach such places (for example Three sisters)?
I don't know if this post fits in this reddit. So if it doesn't, please warn me and I can remove the post. Thanks a lot for every comment you'll be making!

Are they wondering around in backyards or do you have to go out in the woods?

I’ll be studying in Australia in a few months and I have the choice between going to Perth or Adelaide and I was wondering which is better in like, safety wise/crime, housing prices, entertainment/activities, type of people, and stuff like that in general.
