EDIT: Title should be debt not dept and reworded to 'Centrelink debt and why you should fight against it'
For the past two or so years, I've been dealing with Centrelink and my debt with them. It started with a letter in the mail saying that I had been overpaid while on Jobseeker and now owed them $2000. At this point, I had canceled being a Jobseeker as I got a part-time job that I was earning just enough to not get any benefits from Centrelink anymore but it still wanst much. As soon as I could I got onto the phone with them and started an appeal. I may have made a mistake with reporting what I was earning at the time and quite possibly did owe some money but didn't think it was $2000 worth of mistakes.
I'm going to shorten the rest of the events because what happened through the year was a lot.
Appeal was started
Handed in physical copies of all my payslips (I was working two casual jobs)
2 months pass
Letter stating I now owe more $$ since I have done nothing to rectify it
Back on the phone to Centrelink (Turns out I was supposed to tell them I had handed in my payslips)
Nice Lady starts my appeal again and puts my debt on hold
Nice Lady calls two weeks later saying shes almost halfway done with it
Week later I call for update (It's still halfway done)
2 month passes
Letter stating I owe EVEN MORE MONEY cause I have done nothing to rectify it
Call Centrelink
NO REPORTS THAT IT WAS ON HOLD OR AN APPEAL WAS IN PROCESS
Nice lady quite possibly changed to a different department
Nice man puts debt on hold for 6 months to be reassessed again
