My husband (38M) and I (39F) are in the early stages of planning travel through Switzerland, Austria and France in September to celebrate our 40th. We may have our 6 and 2.5 year old in tow. An ideal vacation for us would be drinking beer/coffee, eating cheese, taking in beautiful landscapes and learning some history.

I’d love any suggestions you have to give, from the amount of time to spend in each place (3 days? A week?) to the best way to travel (train? Car rental?) to must-have experiences to what not to do. Appreciate your time immensely.
