We really need a stringent set of protocols that all Mobile operators should be forced to follow. Its just a reality of today that sms/phone call authentication is widely relied upon, and criminals are exploiting the lack of security around phone number ownership and transfer. Let’s see legislation requiring Telecommunications providers to provide due diligence on authenticating the customer PROPERLY for phone number porting, or sim replacements (Just asking for full name, dob and address is pathetic).
We should also require the Telco’s to retain detailed logs of number porting and sim replacement, and make them liable for financial damages as a result of any failure on their part to follow the security and authentication protocols.
