Our public school (Bald Hills State School) just pulled us aside this morning saying our prep student (5 years old) would be very upset if she missed the christmas concert, could we give permission.
So we did.
It turned out not to be a christmas concert, but instead a full Christian service, sermons, religious carols only, videos about the Love of Christ, the works.
I feel (a) deceived by the school about the scope of their activities here, and (b) goddamn FURIOUS that they're treating a public school as a church, and (c) not real happy about them treating kids who haven't signed up to religious education like total shit this way, either.
But I feel like anything I try here will fall on deaf ears. I could write a letter to the school principal, and chaplain (ffs), to the local MP (who was there), to the state Education Minister... but will anyone care?
