I was thinking about the old bands doing their superannuation tours. They're mostly really good musicians and live music has come a long way since the 70s, so the shows and sound are great. But I wanted to find some clips that showed the bands as they were, then, live, in their heyday.
Midnight Oil - Bus to Bondi (1980). I suppose jazz afficionados will think otherwise, but is there a better drummer in Australia than Rob Hirst. The drums are like extensions of his arms.
And a
full concert from The Hoodoo Gurus in Sydney 1984, just before they released Mars Needs Guitars and hit the big time. They remind me of The Cramps. None of the big hits here, just lots of energy, and you look at Dave Faulkner and say ""Well it does look a little like him".
- For completeness. the best live show I ever saw was Jimmy Cliff - the best show at the worst venue in Sydney - Selina's.
