VietPress USA (Mar. 9, 2018): Today on Friday, Mar. 9, 2018, at about 10:30am, a gunman wearing body armor and reportedly armed with an automatic weapon entered the veterans home that houses The Pathway Home in northern California and exchanged gunfire with a Deputy Police officer at the center then took the 3 women hostage.
This is a privately run program that treats veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with post-traumatic stress disorder. Authorities have not had contact with the gunman holding three women hostage for nearly eight hours and police tactical teams are forming plans on how to deal with the ongoing situation at a veterans home in California.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Robert Nacke told reporters that "there has not been any confirmed communication with the gunman since 10:30 in the morning."
Nacke called the situation at the veterans home "dynamic and active" and said he had no information about the hostages or their conditions. Three hostages are volunteers working at The Pathway Home.
At aroud 7:45 pm, Police said the gunman and three hostages have been found dead after a shooting and standoff at a veterans home in California.
The official wasn't authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press Friday on condition of anonymity.
Authorities are not identifying the suspect in the California veterans home hostage standoff or the three women who were killed.
Napa County Sheriff John Robertson told reporters Friday night that authorities were still working to notify their relatives.
The bodies were discovered at about 6 p.m. in a part of the veterans home that houses The Pathway Home.
According to Yahoo News, California Gov. Jerry Brown and wife Anne have offered their condolences to families and friends of the three women killed by a gunman in a Northern California veterans home.
Brown said Friday that he and his wife were deeply saddened by the killing of three women dedicated to serving veterans.
The three victims were employees of a nonprofit group that treated Iraq and Afghanistan combat veterans with post-traumatic stress syndrome.

Gunman takes hostages at party at largest U.S. veterans home
By Ellen Knickmeyer and Janie Har - Associated Press - Friday, March 9, 2018
YOUNTVILLE, Calif. — A gunman slipped into an employee going-away party at the largest veterans home in the United States and took at least three people hostage Friday, leading to a lockdown of the sprawling grounds in California, authorities and family members said.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert Nacke told reporters that he knew of no injuries. Police evacuated the property of the Veterans Home of California after reports of a man with a gun at the facility in
Yountville, one of Napa Valley’s most upscale towns in the heart of Northern California wine country.
“We do have an active shooter situation with a hostage situation in
Yountville,” Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen told San Francisco Bay Area news station KTVU-TV.
Larry Kamer told The Associated Press that his wife, Devereaux Smith, was at the party and told him by phone that the gunman had entered the room quietly, letting some people leave while taking others hostage.
Smith, a fundraiser for the nonprofit Pathway Home, was still inside the facility’s dining hall and was not allowed to leave, he said. The Pathway Home, a privately run program on the veteran home’s grounds, treats veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The Napa Valley Register reported that the man was wearing body armor and reportedly armed with an automatic weapon.
