Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!

President Donald Trump and his nominated Attorney General Jeff Sessions |
VietPress USA (Feb. 28, 2018): Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, born December 24, 1946, is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 84th and current Attorney General of the United States since 2017. Sessions was a United States Senator from Alabama from 1997 to 2017, serving as a member of the Republican Party.
From 1981 to 1993, he served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Sessions was nominated in 1986 to be a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, but was not confirmed. Sessions was elected Attorney General of Alabama in 1994, and to the U.S. Senate in 1996, being re-elected in 2002, 2008, and 2014. During his time in Congress, Sessions was considered one of the most conservative members of the U.S. Senate.
An early supporter of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, Sessions was nominated by Trump for the post of U.S. Attorney General. He was confirmed on February 8, 2017, with a 52–47 vote in the Senate, and was sworn in on February 9, 2017.
In his Attorney General confirmation hearings, Sessions stated, while under oath, that he did not have contact with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign and that he was unaware of any contacts between Trump campaign members and Russian officials. However, in March 2017, news reports revealed that Sessions had twice met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in 2016.
Sessions subsequently recused himself from any investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, while some Democratic lawmakers called for his resignation. In testimony before the House Intelligence Committee in November 2017, Carter Page declared that he had notified Sessions about his contacts with Kremlin officials in July 2016, contradicting Sessions' earlier denials. Last week, Special Counsel Robert Mueller added new charges to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign top officials including Paul Manafort and Rick Gates. Trump is not happy with this and with the Memo from Democrats on FISA inspections.
Trump seems angrily to slam Attorney General Jeff Sessions as "disgraceful" over investigation of FISA warrants.

Trump slams ‘disgraceful’ AG Sessions over investigation of FISA warrants
By Sally Persons - The Washington Times - Wednesday, February 28, 2018
President Trump slammed his attorney general on Wednesday, calling his lack of action “disgraceful” regarding possible abuses in the surveillance system.
“Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!” Mr. Trump tweeted.
Mr. Sessions said Tuesday that his department’s inspector general is looking into whether the FBI properly handled the FISA warrants for members of Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign, but Mr. Trump said action is not sufficient.
Mr. Sessions made the remarks at a news conference to announce a new opioid task force.
This is not the first time Mr. Trump has disparaged Mr. Sessions on social media. The friction began when Mr. Sessions recused himself from all matters relating to the Russia investigation, which is now being handled by special prosecutor Robert Mueller.
His recusal has continued to cause tensions within the administration.
The alleged abuses in the FISA warrant system came to light when Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a memo saying FBI agents did not tell the judge in the secret court system that the unverified dossier, which they claim was used to obtain the warrant, was politically funded. The warrant was obtained to collect information on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page for his ties to Russian and claims of possible collusion.
Democrats pushed back on this in their own memo arguing that the warrant was not entirely substantiated from the dossier and that the judge knew it had political ties. Some on the committee, however, acknowledged it’s unlikely the court knew it was funded by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
The memos on the surveillance warrant were both published against the wishes of the FBI, who said the documents could reveal sources and methods for obtaining the top-secret information. Mr. Trump approved the release of both memos, although he did have Democrats make edits to their original draft, saying it revealed classified information.
