Allan J. Lichtman, professor of history, American University |
VietPress USA (Feb. 11, 2018): According to Wikipedia, Allan Jay Lichtman is an American political historian who teaches at American University in Washington, D.C.. He is well known for predicting every presidential winner in the United States Presidential Election since 1984, including forecasting the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election remarkably early.
Lichtman was born in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City into a Jewish family. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School. Lichtman received his B.A. degree from Brandeis University in History in 1967, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude while also running track and wrestling for the school. Lichtman received his Ph.D. from Harvard University as a Graduate Prize Fellow in 1973, also in history. Lichtman began teaching at American University in 1973, rising to chair of the History Department, and was named Scholar/Professor of the Year in 1993.
In 2006, he ran for the state Senate in Maryland. He was named by American University as the Distinguished Professor of History in 2011, and as Outstanding Scholar/Teacher for 1992–93, the highest faculty award at that school. He is the author of numerous books and has published over 100 articles. A model he created with Russian seismologist Vladimir Keilis-Borok, known as The Keys to the White House, has accurately predicted the popular vote winner of all of the U.S. presidential elections from 1984 to 2012.
In 2000, he incorrectly predicted that Al Gore would win the presidency in 2000 but later claimed that he had predicted the popular vote winner. In 2016, he was wrong in predicting a popular vote win for Donald Trump, although Trump won the Electoral College. With Trump win prediction in 2016, he had his bet each way, he also predicted that Trump could lose towards the end of his prediction video interview.
In April 2017, Lichtman authored the book The Case for Impeachment, laying out multiple arguments for the impeachment of Donald Trump.

Anatomy of the impeachment industry: Trump election predictor sees grounds but no politics
By James Varney - The Washington Times - Sunday, February 11, 2018
Scholar Allan Lichtman revels in his Nostradamus-like reputation for having predicted Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential election victory — and now those gripped with anti-Trump fever are hoping he is right again.
A distinguished history professor at American University, Mr. Lichtman not only foresaw Mr. Trump’s win, but at almost the same time, he predicted the president would be impeached by a Republican Congress.
He sounded the impeachment gong repeatedly during the initial year of the Trump administration: first in a USA Today op-ed in April that coincided with his book “The Case for Impeachment” and again in a Time magazine essay in November.
“I see grounds for it, as an observer, but I don’t see the politics of it,” Mr. Lichtman said last week when asked where he puts the odds.
He is at the forefront of a cottage industry developed around possible impeachment.
Opponents have sought to end the Trump presidency from the moment he won the election, beginning with pressuring Electoral College voters and now arguing that impeachment is the surest path to ridding themselves of a hated figure.
