US Women's Boxing Goes Twice Gold Thanks To Clarissa Shields
In order to become the first American boxer to capture
back-to-back gold medals and cap the US boxing team’s most prolific Olympics in
nearly a generation, Claressa Shields beat distractions, nerves and a
top-flight opponent.
With a unanimous-decision win over second-seeded Nouchka Fontijn of the
Netherlands before a lively crowd at Riocentro, the American middleweight lived
up to her world No1 ranking in the 75kg division.
After the result was announced Shields dropped to one knee in joy then turned a
cartwheel. She then climbed out of the ring and lapped it full sprint with an
American flag in tow. The display was the latest peak in a four-year run at the
summit of women’s boxing.
US Rice Crop Threatened By High Waters
A damper has been put on the nation’s rice harvest in both Louisiana
and Arkansas by recent high waters.
Much of Louisiana’s crop was in before record floods this month. Arkansas
farmers, however, had just started harvesting before rainy weather began last
weekend.
Farmers whose fields are inundated and may not be able to harvest seem to be
the biggest losers.
Arkansas produces half the nation’s rice. Louisiana produces about 15 percent.
Before the rest of the crop is brought in, farmers fear that continued bad
weather, or a Gulf Coast hurricane, could worsen problems.
Pills At Prince's Estate Falsely Labeled
Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson) performs on stage at the
Stade de France in Saint-Denis, outside Paris, on June 30, 2011. MINNEAPOLIS -

counterfeit drugs that actually contained fentanyl - a synthetic opioid 50
times more powerful than heroin, an official close to the investigation said
Sunday. The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of
anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said many pills were falsely
labeled as “Watson 385.”
Mexico-U.S Air Transport Deal Jump Kicks Competition
Mexico's Communications and Transport Ministry said an air
transport deal between Mexico and the United States that aims to boost
competition in the passenger and freight sectors came into force on Sunday.
The deal modifies a 1960 agreement and would open new passenger routes for
airlines to fly between the countries. In addition it allows for an unlimited
number of flights. It also opens up the air freight market to more competition.
Some analysts have welcomed the deal, saying it would lower airfares by boosting
traffic. However, Mexican airline workers have complained it would put their
country's airlines at a disadvantage.
The deal removes the main hurdle to a closer tie-up between Delta Air Lines Inc
and Grupo Aeromexico SAB de CV.
Florida Mosque Fire Is Ruled Arson
Authorities said on Saturday a fire at a small one-story mosque
in Tampa, Florida has been ruled an intentional act of arson. The fire was
originally thought to be caused by a faulty electrical cord.
Following the August 5th fire, investigators with Tampa Fire Rescue took
samples from carpeting inside the Masjid Omar mosque and soil outside.
Jason Penny, a spokesperson for the agency, told BuzzFeed News, the results
returned from Florida’s State Fire Marshall show that three-out-of-five samples
came back positive for “an accelerant…specifically gasoline."
