Hanh --
In my very first
inaugural address, I committed us to the task of protecting this planet for
future generations by making climate change a priority. Over the past seven
years, we've transformed the United States into a global leader in this fight.
We're leading by
example, with historic investments in clean energy, and the first-ever nationwide
standards to limit carbon pollution from power plants. From Alaska to the Gulf
Coast to the Great Plains, we've partnered with local leaders who are working
to help their communities protect themselves from the impacts they're already
seeing.
But no nation can
solve this challenge alone -- we have to solve it together. On Saturday, thanks
to American leadership, we succeeded in securing an ambitious, enduring
agreement that reduces worldwide carbon pollution. This agreement gets
commitments from nations both big and small, providing assurances to even
developing nations that they will get the support they need in achieving their
individual goals.
It's a big step
forward in building the global momentum we need to tackle this problem, and OFA
is one of the groups committed to keeping it going. Add your name, and say you
support strong action on climate change.
The Paris agreement
establishes the framework that the world needs to solve the climate crisis,
creating a mechanism for us to continually tackle this problem in an effective
way. Moreover, this agreement sends a powerful signal that the world is firmly
committed to a low-carbon future.
No agreement is
perfect. Even if all of the initial targets are met, we'll still need to reduce
carbon from the atmosphere -- so we cannot afford to be complacent.
But I believe this
moment is a turning point for the world. We've shown that we have both the will
and the ability to take on this challenge. It won't be easy, progress never is,
but we have to keep up the fight.
You can join OFA in
the fight right now, and say you're committed to big steps forward on fighting
climate change:
Thanks,
Barack Obama
