This year marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid, and the Older Americans Act, as well as the 80th anniversary of Social Security. Today, President Obama is hosting the 2015 White House Conference on Aging -- an opportunity to recognize the importance of these landmark programs, while looking ahead to address the issues that will improve the quality of life for older Americans for the next decade.
On Friday, the President designed three new national monuments: Berryessa Snow Mountain in California, Waco Mammoth in Texas, and Basin and Range in Nevada. The new designation will protect more than 1 million acres of public land, adding to the more than 260 million acres of public lands and waters President Obama has protected for future generations -- more than any other President.
In this week's address, the President discussed a new rule announced by his Administration last week to make it easier for communities to implement the Fair Housing Act.

| Quote of the Day | |
|
"I want you to kind of think about how you can move this issue forward in your communities. What more can you do when you get back home to continue this conversation and to engage more young people in the work that you all do. That's the only thing that I ask of you -- and just to keep being the amazing, wonderful human beings that you are."
