A NOTE FROM WAVE RELEASING PARTNER – TIMOTHY LINH BUI
In our latest feature, HOW TO FIGHT IN SIX INCH HEELS, our heroine, Anne, returns to her birth country of Vietnam to discover her dream of becoming a fashion designer. Many Vietnamese-American filmmakers have taken a similar journey to find their own dream.
Over the last decade, Vietnamese cinema's rapid ascension largely is a result of the influx of Vietnamese-American filmmakers returning to the motherland to tell their  stories.  These stories often find success in Vietnam yet fall short of reaching the shores back home.
The dearth of Vietnamese films in the US is not due to lack of demand or failure of theaters open to exhibiting them.  It is due to the lack of traditional distributors willing to take on such foreign films.
To bring high quality Vietnamese films to our American communities we must create the distribution platform from within the community.  This has been the driving inspiration since we founded Wave Releasing in 2008.
I look forward to bringing the award winning film HOW TO FIGHT IN SIX INCH HEELS home to our communities here in the United States, and to create a distribution platform that will be renowned in bringing the very best of Vietnamese cinema to audiences in the US and worldwide.

BIO (Ham Tran, Timothy Linh Bui, Kathy Uyen)

TIMOTHY LINH BUI
In 1997, Timothy co-wrote and co-produced THREE SEASONS – the first American film to be produced in Vietnam since the war.  It stars Harvey Keitel and is a triple award winner at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.   Bui was given the opportunity to tell his passion project about the Vietnamese refugee experience at Camp Pendleton in GREEN DRAGON; starring Patrick Swayze and Forest Whitaker.  The film made its world premiere at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival in Dramatic Competition and is the recipient of the Humanitas Prize Award.
In 2004, he produced INSIDE OUT, starring Kate Walsh, Eriq La Salle, Steven Webber and Russell Wong.  The Thriller was released by Anchor Bay.  In 2008, Bui executive produced OWL AND THE SPARROW, which world premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was a nominee for the Spirit Awards.
Facing the frustration of traditional distribution practice where foreign language films  are often reserved for the festival circuit - Bui formed Wave Releasing in 2008,  an indie distribution company committed to building a theatrical platform for Vietnamese language films.  Wave is set to distribute its fourth such film in 2015.
Bui returned to the director’s chair in 2009 , also as writer and producer on POWDER BLUE; starring Forest Whitaker, Jessica Biel, Ray Liotta and Eddie Redmayne..
In 2012 he formed Happy Canvas, a development company committed to creating original stories that are distinctive, yet universally appealing.  HOW TO FIGHT IN SIX INCH HEELS is the first film under this banner. A romantic comedy set in Saigon and New York.  The film opened #1 at the box office in Vietnam 2013 and will be release in the US in Spring 2015.
Bui recently completed THE THROWAWAYS, an original feature for Sony Crackle starring James Caan, Kevin Dillon and Sam Huntington.
